Kalahari Kick

Our fridge wouldn’t be our fridge without a bottle of Amarula in it. (Or Frank’s hot sauce, but that’s another post entirely.) Growing up in South Africa, we were sometimes allowed little sips of it here and there – it was the only alcohol we liked, because it was so sweet and creamy. Mmmm. It’s special for us for this reason and of course because it reminds us of one of our favourite countries!

So the summertime is nearly here and this means cocktail season is absolutely here. We could’ve made some sort ice-based drink – a mojito perhaps? But, we’ve all had a hard week. Let’s try some whisky. Add some yummy Amarula. And top it off with some coffee so that we still have energy to do all the things we want to do in the sun.

NB: This drink may look demure but it is not for the faint-hearted!

P.S. How cute are our antique birdie cocktail measures?

Makes 1 yummy cocktail

60ml Amarula (or you can use any cream liqueur like Baileys)
60ml blended scotch whisky (like Johnnie Walker Black Label)
60ml cold brewed coffee (we used 1tbsp Lavazza + 60ml boiled water)

  1. Add all three ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake shake shake! (Be careful that the mixture doesn’t leak out)
  3. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Enjoy immediately and pretend you’re on holiday 🙂
